EDUCATION
The Ciputra Education is committed to the development of the attitudes and skills of entrepreneurship by all students. Encouraging entrepreneurship is considered a key to creating jobs and improving competitiveness and economic growth in the Indonesia. The importance of entrepreneurship is widely recognized today as a positive skill to be developed through life-long learning, and experiential learning. Entrepreneurship (or Enterprise Education) exists already in the national educational policy of many countries.
Particularly, the Ciputra Education Group has identified broad priorities that include:
- Promoting the development of personal qualities relevant to entrepreneurship, such as creativity, risk-taking and responsibility
- Raising students’ awareness of self-employment as a career option,
- Providing students with opportunities to develop and display the technical and business skills essential in entrepreneurial activities.
The Ciputra Education Group recommendations for the different levels of schooling are as follows:
- At the level of pre-elementary (kindergarten), entrepreneurship education aims to introduce the development of entrepreneurial attitudes and skills in various enjoyable learning processes such as songs, company visits, visual presentations, speaking contests and through the production of crafts and the “marketing” of the craft “products”.
- At the elementary school level, entrepreneurship education aims to foster in pupils those personal qualities such as creativity, spirit of initiative and independence that contribute to the development of an entrepreneurial attitude, which will prove useful in their life and in every working activity. In this phase, autonomous and active forms of learning are developed. Students acquire basic knowledge of business and financial literacy and through contact with the world of business, students will better understand of the role of entrepreneurs in the community. Activities may include working on small business projects (“mini company projects”) presentation of simple case studies and visits to local companies and enterprises.
- At the high school level, the development of the personal qualities mentioned above are seen to be relevant. In addition, entrepreneurship education may include raising the awareness of the students about self-employment as a possible career option (you can become an entrepreneur); learning by doing — for instance by running mini-enterprises; and specific training on how to create business projects.
To reinforce this commitment the school has developed its own Entrepreneurship Education Policy. This policy gives details of the curriculum units within the IB that have a clear focus on Entrepreneurship. It also provides a rationale for the school’s continuing commitment to Entrepreneurship Education.
